Welcome to the Erie Boulevard Reconstruction Public Information Page

Schenectady Mayor Brian Stratton is pleased to present the Preferred Design Concept for $14 million in planned improvements to Erie Boulevard between I-890 and Union Street. Below you will find several static and animated visualizations that depict the proposed design as it will look when completed in the fall of 2011.
The preferred design concept is based on four design principles:
Aesthetics: Erie Boulevard should be an attractive, tree-lined street with expansive green spaces that will attract private investment and visitors. It should present an image of a progressive, changing and forward looking City.
Function: Erie Boulevard should be designed to efficiently accommodate large volumes of traffic entering the City at reasonable speeds. It should provide a comfortable and safe pedestrian environment.
Context: Erie Boulevard should provide visual and physical connections to the surrounding area that will encourage and support private investment and redevelopment. It should support a strong economic-based land use and encourage vibrant street life and the use of public spaces.
Heritage: Erie Boulevard should interpret the rich history and heritage of the area and create connections between the past and the future of the City of Schenectady.
