Khalid (Kal) Abed, PE, Vice President, is a Principal Engineer VI in the Facilities and Energy Division of our Richmond, VA office. He has been with CHA since 2000 and has over 23 years of experience in project management and structural engineering for industrial, commercial and governmental projects. At CHA, Mr. Abed has worked on projects for national clients such as Pepsi Co., Sprint and governmental clients such as the City of Virginia Beach and the Virginia Department of Conservation and Recreation. He has also worked with CHA’s design-build affiliate, CHA Tech Services LLC, on numerous design-build projects, notably several for Pepsi.
Mr. Abed is a registered Professional Engineer in 10 states, including Washington, DC; Delaware; Georgia; Louisiana; Maryland; North Carolina; South Carolina; Texas; Virginia; and West Virginia. He is an Executive Board member of the Virginia Structural Engineers Council. He earned his Bachelors Degree from Old Dominion University, Norfolk, VA and his Masters from the University of Virginia, Charlottesville, VA.
Karen W. Clark, PE, Vice President, is a Principal Engineer and an Operations Manager in our Environmental Service Group. Her extensive list of accomplishments in her 20 years of experience includes sewer system evaluations, pump station evaluations and designs, wastewater treatment plant capacity analyses, upgrades, industrial wastewater treatment systems, disinfection systems, underground fuel storage systems, energy conservation studies, and feasibility studies. Ms. Clark has evaluated and designed wastewater treatment systems for various industries including bakeries, auto manufacturers, chemical manufacturers, cheese manufacturers and pharmaceutical companies. She has been with CHA since 1998.
Ms. Clark earned her Bachelors Degree in Civil and Environmental Engineering from Clarkson University. In 2008, she earned her MBA degree from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. She is a licensed Professional Engineer in New York, Pennsylvania, Virginia, New Jersey and South Carolina.
Joseph S. Grasso, RLA, Vice President, is the Civil/Site Service Group Manager in our Civil, Environmental and Planning Division. His 20 years of experience in municipal, residential, commercial, institutional, and recreational facility planning and design has allowed him to take hundreds of projects through the design and approval processes. Throughout Mr. Grasso’s 13-year career at CHA, he has served as a Town Designated Engineering (TDE) Representative for eight upstate New York municipalities. His experience as a TDE, coupled with his history of taking numerous projects through the Town of Colonie approval processes, were instrumental in CHA being hired as the Town of Colonie’s first TDE.
Mr. Grasso is a Registered Landscape Architect in New York, New Hampshire and Texas. He earned his Bachelors Degree in Landscape Architecture from the SUNY College of Environmental Science/Forestry.
Robert Terwilliger, PE, Vice President, is our Director of Aviation Services, a role he plays out of our Pittsburgh, PA office. He has over 25 years of experience in airport design and construction. Over the last 15 years, he has overseen airport development programs in Pittsburgh, Cincinnati, Raleigh, and Atlanta. Mr. Terwilliger was previously employed by CHA from 1995 to 2002, during which time he played crucial roles in successful projects at Westchester County Airport, Stewart International Airport, and Rochester International Airport. He returned to the firm in 2008 following a period of employment with PBS&J.
Mr. Terwilliger is a registered Professional Engineer in Pennsylvania and is a member of organizations including the Aviation Council of Pennsylvania, American Association of Airport Executives, and the National Society of Professional Engineers. He received his Associates Degree in Civil Engineering Technology from the State University of New York at Delhi.
James F. Trasher, PE, Vice President, joined CHA in 1998 and has since taken a major role in the design and development of capital improvement and land development projects throughout the Central New York region. As Operations Director of the firm’s Land Development Service Group, Mr. Trasher has overseen more than $100 million of residential and commercial development projects from conceptual design through final design. His contacts in municipal government throughout the Central New York area have been invaluable in helping to develop new client relationships and win CHA a string of major capital improvement projects.
Mr. Trasher is a licensed engineer in New York; he earned his Bachelors Degree in Civil Engineering from SUNY College of Environmental Science/Forestry.
