Plan will counter adverse impacts to airports stemming from rapidly developing local economy

Clough Harbour & Associates LLP (CHA) is pleased to announce that the North Central Texas Council of Governments has awarded the firm a multi-year, $2.8 million dollar contract to develop a Regional General Aviation and Heliport System Plan in a 16-county region of North Central Texas, which includes over 300 landing facilities. The study will encompass 55 airports.

The North Central Texas Council of Governments (NCTCOG) is a voluntary association of, by, and for local governments within a 16-county region of North Central Texas. Collectively, the member governments make joint decisions, recognize areas of opportunity, and eliminate unnecessary duplication within the region.

The project's main goals are to advance the planning and development of the North Texas Regional Aviation System and provide input into the National Plan of Integrated Airport Systems, Texas Airport System Plan, and other NCTCOG plans. CHA will lead a group of six consultants on this project.

North Central Texas increased its population by 168,000 residents in 2005 alone. The area added over one million jobs between 1990 and 2000, making it a rapidly growing region. With such growth, air cargo activity has increased significantly and developing residential areas are beginning to encroach on the land buffers surrounding each of the more than 50 airports within the region. The new System Plan will outline measures that will counter adverse impacts such as these.

CHA first became involved with airport engineering in the Albany/Upstate New York region. It has since become a cornerstone of the firm's practice. Since beginning its work in the aviation sector, the firm has gone on to expand beyond the Capital Region and New York State.
